What She Works On

Where a Dietitian Helps

Isabelle provides evidence-based nutrition support built around your goals, your training and your health history. These are the things people come to her for.

Fuelling for training and competition

Timing, volume and recovery nutrition built around your real week rather than a template. Isabelle works with rugby, hockey, football and soccer athletes.

Weight-class cuts

Planning a cut that is safe to make, and eating to get your strength back properly on the other side.

Body composition

Physique goals approached so that training quality and health hold up while you chase them.

Digestive concerns

Structured work on gut symptoms instead of removing foods one at a time and hoping something helps.

Eating alongside a medical condition

Diabetes, IBS and hypertension, where diet is part of the treatment and generic advice can do real harm.

A steadier relationship with food

No fear-based rules. The emphasis is on what can be added to make eating work, not only on what to cut.

The Work

What It Actually Looks Like

The first appointment is mostly assessment: what you currently eat, how you train or work, your medical history, what has already been tried, and what you are actually trying to change. Generic plans fail because they ignore all five.

After that the work is iterative. A small number of changes, then review. Nutrition changes stick when they survive a bad week, so the aim is a pattern you can hold when you are tired and busy.

Your Dietitian

Isabelle Smith

Isabelle is registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario and holds an Integrated Honours Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Ottawa.

She competes in bikini bodybuilding, which gives her a practical grasp of how nutrition drives training, recovery and physique. She works with athletes and active people who want their eating to match what they are asking of themselves, and also with general health, digestive concerns, and building a steadier relationship with food.

Having experienced challenges with disordered eating in her youth, she brings a compassionate and non-judgmental approach. The emphasis is on what can be added to make eating work, instead of restriction, and on changes realistic enough to survive a bad week.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral?

No, you can book directly. Some plans require a physician’s referral before they reimburse, so it is worth checking your coverage.

Is it covered by insurance?

Most extended health plans include registered dietitian services, and often under a separate allowance from paramedical practitioners. That means it may not eat into the limit you are already using for massage or physiotherapy.

Can I do appointments virtually?

Yes. Follow-up appointments are available virtually at the same rates, which makes ongoing work considerably easier to keep up.

Can my partner and I come together?

Yes. Couples and two-person appointments are available for both the initial consultation and follow-ups. They suit households changing how they eat together rather than one person trying to do it alone.

Will I be put on a meal plan?

Only if that suits you. Fixed meal plans work for some people and fail for most, so the default is a set of adjustments to how you already eat. Dedicated meal planning sessions are available once you have had an initial consultation.

What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

Registered Dietitian is a protected title in Ontario. It requires an accredited degree, a supervised practicum, a national registration exam and ongoing accountability to the College of Dietitians of Ontario. Nutritionist is not protected, so in Ontario anyone may use it. That has two practical consequences: your extended health plan will generally reimburse a dietitian and generally will not reimburse an unregulated nutritionist, and a dietitian can work safely alongside a medical condition where generic advice can do real harm.
